Founded by Joe Coral in 1926, the company began as a bookmakers stand at the side of racecourses and didn't open its first betting shop until new legislation permitted it in the early '60s. Its first branches were somewhat basic, with minimal branding and few customer facilities. Coral was also not able to advertise its services as the government did not want gambling to become attractive to the general public.
Despite this, Coral's empire grew rapidly and within a year of opening his first office, 22 further ones were in operation across the UK. Further expansion and a merger with Mark Lane in 1971 meant the chain stood at more than 500 by the end of the '70s.
Bass PLC bought the brand in 1981 and merged it with Gala Bingo a decade later. Since then, the group has been bought and sold by a number of venture capitalist businesses but its success has never waivered.
Today, the Coral Gala Group employs more than 19,000 people and has an annual turnover exceeding £1.5 billion. Its shop network is made up of approximately 1,800 licensed premises, and it owns the greyhound stadiums at Brighton & Hove and Romford. It is also the official betting partner of Premier League football clubs Everton and Chelsea.
Coral.co.uk is the official website of the brand's betting arm and offers odds on sporting events, casino games, bingo, and virtual events.

Refunds and Withdrawals
Where mistakes are made or sporting events cancelled, Coral.co.uk will refund the applicable stake back into a person's account. In certain circumstances, the site may also offer a refund in the form of a free bet or as funds that can solely be redeemed against its casino games. On occasion, refunds are offered as betting incentives. For example, the site may offer to refund losing accumulator bets where only one of eight or more results failed to be predicted correctly.
Withdrawals are made by making a request via the option in the user's account. These are paid directly to the card listed on the account and usually take two to five working days to complete. Withdrawals are likely to take longer if requested over the weekend or on Bank Holiday.

All users are required to log into their own account and their personal information is encrypted using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology. All data collected is stored in a protected database that is hidden behind a state-of-the-art firewall.

Reviews differ greatly by site. For example, Reviews.co.uk rates Coral.co.uk at 4.46 out of 5 from in excess of 1,500 postings. In contrast, TrustPilot gives it 4.0 out of 10, but the number of listings is much smaller.
Most positive feedback is centred around how easy the site is to use and number of sports on offer. Negative reviews tend to be about the level of service the writer received in one of the company's betting shops.
